Ferry on your own or a tour? What each one really costs
Going on your own is possible and sometimes worth it. This is what it really costs:
- Ferry: from Puerto Juárez, about every 30 minutes, around 20 minutes across. The fare depends on the ferry line and the pier; it costs more from the Hotel Zone.
- Getting to the pier: by taxi from the Hotel Zone, or by city bus, which is cheap but slower.
- On the island: golf cart or taxi, food, beach club and snorkel gear, each paid separately.
On your own makes sense: if you want all day at Playa Norte with no schedule, or you're staying overnight.
A tour makes sense: if you want snorkeling, food and drinks without planning, or you're going with kids and want hotel pickup.
